NASAA's Senior Issues Committee Presents:
Protecting Older Investors from Scams

NASAA is pleased to announce the next installment of NASAA’s Senior Issues Committee Presents. There will be three learning segments.  In the first, we will discuss an early-stage effort by Edward Jones to use data points from previous fraud victims to predict which current clients may be vulnerable to exploitation.  In the second, we will discuss empathetic and empowering communication techniques used to help overcome the fear, shame, and other emotions that prevent victims from acknowledging that the person at the other end of the line is a criminal.  In the third, we will discuss the progress of the Scams Against Older Adults Advisory Group what the FTC has learned in response to the Stop Senior Scams Act.

This complimentary 90-minute event is open to the public as well as NASAA’s membership and is designed for anyone interested in learning more about scams against older investors.  CLE credits will be available on a self-reporting basis.

Interview 3: Stop Senior Scams Act Progress
In response to the Stop Senior Scams Act, the FTC created the Scams Against Older Adults Advisory Group to bring together relevant government officials, industry representatives, advocates and consumer representatives to collect and develop model educational materials for retailers, financial institutions and wire transfer companies to use in stopping scams on seniors. This conversation will discuss what the progress of the effort and what the FTC has learned.
